Dave Ramsey MADE ME LOSE A COMMISSION…..and I’m happy about it!
I had been working with a client for awhile, to help them get a mortgage to buy a home, when one day they asked me what I thought they should do. YES, finally they may listen to what I have suggested before and have been feeling all along for them.
I’ve been in the mortgage business almost 20 years and I’m not one to hold back from giving my opinion. I feel it my duty, it’s like going to a Dr, you go there because they have, hopefully, solutions to your problems, but you always want their opinion on what option or course of treatment they think is best. Fact is they’ve had many patients before you that they can draw on for experience sake. Similarly, I do the same for my clients, many times they listen and at times they just want what they want, I don’t discriminate either way as I am here to provide a service.
“Don’t buy the house now, you really can’t afford it, yet” where the first words that came out of my mouth. “Yep, thats what we realized as we read the book you sent us, from Dave Ramsey”
Indeed, I am the one who sent them the book that convinced them not to buy a house resulting in me losing a commission, for now.
Sure, I am a for-profit business, but what kind of future profit do I have if I am not protecting the very customers bringing me the ability to have a profit. In this Snapchat world, lets not forget that even though an image may disappear in 10 seconds or less, good advice and counsel can last generations, just as bad advice and counsel can.
Their story is to be continued, as they are relentlessly following a budget and a plan to be prepared to buy a home later and I will be here to gladly serve them.
