At what age do you want your mortgage paid off?

I have had a ton of customers tell me that “if only” they didn’t have a mortgage they would start their own business, spend less time at the office and more time with family and friends, buy a cabin in the mountains, travel overseas, or give more money and time to the charities they truly love.

Unfortunately, having a mortgage last a lifetime is thought of as being a necessary evil, but it doesn’t have to be “death do us part”.

So, I decided to create some tools to help you take matters into your own hands. These tools are not just for people looking to refinance or to buy a home, but also for people that already have a great interest rate and are simply trying to reach their goals sooner.

These tools are free, but they do require a real, honest look at your own financial goals and your current reality.

You don’t need to wait till the bank gives you permission to pay off your mortgage, you can pay it off much sooner. So, let’s set a date. How about, you decide what age you want to be when you become mortgage free.

To help you start writing down your goals and developing a plan to pay off your mortgage we’ve created an interactive blueprint. This will make it easier for you to visualize what is necessary to reach your goals based on that age.

Setting a date alone will not accomplish this goal.

So, the next tool we developed is the Budget Beyond the Application. Banks are only concerned with certain expenses in order to qualify for a loan. This form forces you to lay out all of your monthly expenses, including your often overlooked lifestyle expenses. You will be able to see what you’re paying now and what you could do without a mortgage.

Don’t feel helpless when facing these numbers. Remember these are your goals, your dreams. Have the courage to face the gap between your dreams and today’s reality and feel free to make changes as needed.

Look for some immediate and realistic steps you can take today.

Like applying your tax refund to paying down your principal, contacting the county assessor’s office to have your property taxes re-evaluated, or perhaps its time for a garage sale.

If you leave your email with us here at The Ross Group, we promise not to share it with anyone else, and we’ll let you know of more ideas we come up with to help you accomplish your goals.
